great car mate. i love the paint job, those red stripes really set it off, and ATS classics are my all time favorite wheel for old golfs and polos.

maybe you could go for a white and red detail on the rims??? not sure though, as i've seen some ATS classics colour coded and they didn't quite look right?!? you can't beat polished and black though. :)

Yeah, haven't seen your polo rocking around for ages.

Its still around ladies and gents, currently residing on my driveway with no mot :( but still being looked after :)

Still that will be sorted soon and i can concentrate on the 2009 shows as a few things have got in the way this year much to my annoyance!

Sadly still without mot, was going to get it done this month but i got roped into holidays in Ibiza and snowboarding in Bulgaria so the wallet is a little light!

She will be back to full health soon :)

You know what guys? Its been far too long since i posted here so heres a little update.

Since my last post i have been too busy to do anything with her, about a month after my last post i moved house and she was treated to a nice garage with the intention of getting her mot'd and all that jazz. This never happened. Fast forward to Sept 2010 and i needed to relocate back to the isle of wight at short notice due to my dads illness (Hes on the mend now-thanks!) which left me with a dilemma.

1) pay stupid money to get her trailered over to the isle of wight.

2) get her an mot and drive her over myself with the expense of mot, tax, insurance etc...

I decided on number 2 as to be fair i bloody missed driving her.

Having lifted the bonnet to check the oil and shit before i fired her up i noticed a big rust tinted stain on the garage floor under the engine. After further investigation it turns out it was all the water and coolant that had pissed out. Now its worth pointing out at this stage that i am no mechanic - checking the oil is about as involved as it gets for me. I topped up the expansion tank and fired her up for a few seconds, it was clear where the leak was - the thermostat housing.

The trouble i had was that i was due to move house in about a weeks time and didnt have time to organise getting her to a garage so i rolled up my sleeves and decided to have a go myself. This sounds easy but at this stage i didnt know what most of the engine components were called - thats how bad i was (am) at mechanics. With the help of mr Haynes i figured out what the offending component was and set about getting a replacement. Easier said than done with a 895cc mk1. VW couldnt help, nor GSF or ECP. As luck would have it, the autofactors just round the corner had one in stock so that was that.

After much reading up and studying the manual i did what was necessary and got my hands dirty. I surprised myself here and found it really easy which has given me confidence to try and fix anything else which may crop up within reason.

There was a tiny pin hole in the housing where it had rusted through. With the new item in place (and a new thermostat for good measure) i got all the bits back together and sorted out the coolant mix and stuff. To my suprise I had only gone and fixed it - no leaks. nothing.

With this the mot was booked through my work and i set about booking ferries etc... However she wanst going anywhere on the classics - it scrubbed like feck. (more on that later)

Luckily she only needed one bit of welding to a rear jacking point and she was sorted.

Anyway - long story short she got to the isle of wight under her own steam with lots of looks on the way.

By this stage she was wearing her steelies which i put on for the mot.

That was in September and since then i have once again been too busy to do anything with her so shes been sat up undercover and sorn'd.

Since moving over here i have taken up surfing and decided to buy another aircooled vw camper as i dont want salt water dripping from my surf board onto my golf VR6 Highline (For sale if anyones interested!)

Obviously i didnt want to be without a car between selling the golf and getting a camper so i decided the time was right to get her on the road once and for all. Since Friday she has been my daily and the Highline is sat on the drive where it shall remain until someone buys it!

Over the weekend i decided to whack the classics back on as I love the way it looks. (Remember the scrubbing issues before when i tried to move it on the classics).

To my surprise it scrubs no more than it ever did when it was in daily use before. I had thought it was scrubbing before the mot due to my increased beergut dimensions but on reflection i think that the suspension at the rear must have just settled with the weight of the steelies/plastic bumpers/tent/kitchen sink that was stored inside her when she wasnt being used.

Over this weekend we have been all over the Island and loved every second of it - my missus prefers it to the golf!. According to my dubbing mates over here from when i lived here previously it is the only roadworthy example over here. I know of another that is on someones driveway and is in a bit of a state (Enthusiast - not old duffer) as he has been restoring a bay window crewcab. Other than that the only other known one has been sat in a field for years and has just been acquired by another mate who intends to get it back on the road as soon as possible.

Of all the cars i have owned, never has any of them created as much rubber necking as this one. That is why i love it so much, in reality its just a cheap old banger in most peoples eyes but to me its all i could ask for in a car (unless anyone wants to swap it for a splitty haha)
