would anything be illegal if i took my side indicators off my mk2 saloon? bought some wolfsburg indicator covers, but just wanted to no if i can put them on.

if its a very early mk2 (upto A or C reg, cant remember which though), you're ok, but later ones need to have them fitted

basically after 84 i beleive cars have to have a side indicator- BUT- if the front indicator can be seen from the rear wing of the car and 1metre out then it will pass an mot

oh right, thanks for that, wont be doing it then. will probally get some tinted indicators

"Vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986:

These must be fitted with one side repeater indicator on each side. Instead of a separate lamp, the side repeater might be part of the front direction indicator if it includes a wraparound lens. (See information on following page)." MOT manual

Pre-1986, there is no requirement for side repeaters.
