Anyone point me out where and if this has been done? I'm aching to get more power from my polo and basically think that tuning the bog standard 1.3 is a waste of time. the GT engine is alsoa waste of time as that doesnt have enough power, the G40 engine also too expensive and hard to find.

Thats got me thinking about the a 1.8 8v / or the 16v from a golf GTI into my mk2 polo? i think the engine bay is a little small is this the main problem i would need to overcome?

i had a look at a 1.3 engine in a golf and it looks very similar?! so am i right in thinking i can use the bigger engines?

The engine bay being small isn't the main problem, you'll need a custom subframe to mount it on and the bonnet won't shut for starters. Then theres the extra weight up front which will make the handling even shitter than ever.

I wouldn't call a GT a waste of time. 75 bhp standard, probably 80 without a cat. Poloace chip, 4 branch + decent exhaust, induction kit and a bit of porting to the throttle body and you're looking at 90 bhp - which will make a pretty nippy car. Over 100 bhp with a decent cam and some headwork...

Only the early mk3 golf 1.4 8v engine will go straight in the polo from a golf. The 1.3 in the mk2 golf is the same engine as the polo coupe S. 1.6 is as big as you can fit on the original mounts (again mk3 golf) but requires some modification (see FAQ thread)
