Which 10" subwoofer package?

Featured Replies

Which subwoofer package? I have recently been looking at adding a bit more bass and low end grunt to my ICE. My Ice currently consists of a pair of jbl componts up front and a pair of infinity 6x9s mounted in the rear running from a sony head unit.

I have limited myself down to 10" due to size constraints in my boot and because i like responsive, clear bass. I have been looking at two similar packages but been trying to decide between the two. Can anyone give any advice?

-Kenwood KFC-W2510 10" subwoofer + Toxic TX-500 500W amplifier £99.99

-JBL GTO-1002D 10" subwoofer + Toxic TX-500 500W £94.99

Thanks,

Dave

may not be the answer you are after, but may help you with your thoughts, iv got a splx 600 watt 4 channel amp, still boxed and unused, would sell for £40 then you could buy a sub (or two) and build your own box, if you are abit of a diy-er. found these on ebay, plannin on gettin a pair my self,

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BOX-OF-2-JBL-GT4-12-...1QQcmdZViewItem

then you could maybe do a twin sub box or sell one of the subs on and make abit of dough ££.

to be honest, i wouldnt go for a toxic amp as they're shite, for a cheap 10" package you're better off going for an active sub like a Fli active 10" or similar, much better sound

probably not the answer you're after though

i agree with dubgarry.

your best bet at that budget would be a fli active, they are compact and in your price range and sound ok.......

otherwise check out ebay, go for reputable brands and have a browse on TalkAudio

Thanks for the advice guys, may look towards the fli active sub just not sure if the 10" or 12" will be the best bet as saw the 10" at halfords today (don't worry not getting it from there) and it seemed a bit small and weedy.

I take it its the toxic amp that you guys don't like and that the JBL or kenwood sub are decent subs??

Thanks for your help guys.

Dave,

jbl and kenwood both make decent subs, I'm sure either would do the job fine.

There's always some deals to be had on car audio on ebay. Have a look at the vibe active sub packages, i bought a battered 12 inch vibe package of ebay about 3 years ago for 60 quid (which was absolute steal at the time) It still sounds absolutley fantastic, they're very very hard wearing, can chuck your shit on top of them no problem, they look very tidy with the built in amp as well.

Also i just noticed ebayers seem to claim the fli stuff is made by vibe anyway? So yeah, vibe/fli, good way to go. I reckon looking at completed listings on ebay you could get either a 10 or 12 inch vibe active enclosure for under 40 quid if you try, thats just silly cheap!

Mate dont take this the wrong way, but VIBE FLI subs are shite!

They break far too easy, and would steer well clear if i was you.

To be honest if i was you, stay away from Halfords all together. Your best bet would be to go to a professional audio shop and speak to one of the gents in there. Tell them what your budget is, and what kind of sound your after and i can guarantee they will give you much better components in the deal than Halfords would ever give you.

Just my opinion mate.

Managed to procure a 10" fli sub from the message boards at work for £40 including wiring kit, I priced it up at CarAudioSecurity and it was more like £100 and its in good nick so said yes!

Will see what it is like, if it is sh*te then will sell it on but a fair number of people on here seem to like them so thought i would give it a go. After all Not after shaking the neighbours windows just want to help bass a touch and would like to have some boot left as well.

Thanks for the help guys!

Are you saying that all vibe kit breaks easily? Because i know for a fact that just plain isnt true. I have no experience with the fli stuff though, it could be tat, hence why vibe dont sell it under their name maybe?

I dunno, all i do know is that when i got my vibe package, it already looked like it had been to hell and back, and i've definately taken it deeper into hell than its ever been before and it still delivers earth shaking bass and sounds fantastic. Its an awesome piece of kit, in my opinion ;)
