hi everyone,

i have a bit of rust on my car,

and i would like to get rid of it but i dont know what the best way to do this is?

its a silver mk4.

advice and guidance please.....

true, but not always. You could of get some rust killer, all car shops sell it and they are basicly a liquid that will kill the rust and make it easier to get out with sanding. Once you have applied the liquid the rust will usually change color & you can begin sanding, fillering and spraying. I'm currently doing all the tatty bits on my car and thats the meathod I'm taking.

i find kurust made by hamerite the best stuff.

Wire wheel on a chorded drill,get it all out. Then Kurust it. No perforation? Sand the immediate area with grit paper (Perforation? Weld in new metal,flap-wheel weld). Skim it over with a bit of fill. Smooth the area in stages so the paint and fill's feathered nice and its all smooth - fill only onto bare metal,so there should be a ring of metal between fill and paint contours after sanding. Prime,flat,repeat,fine flat,repeat,finer flat,paint,finer flat paint,finer flat,paint,(finer flat & laquer,repeat,if its metallic),polish,wax blah. Or take it to a bodyshop lol

well the question was "what is the best way of removing rust" and I'm going to agree with mad_will and say that the best way is to cut out the rusty bits and weld in some fresh metal. But I've used Metal Ready from frost.co.uk which turns the rust black. Then you can paint over it with something like POR15 (also from frost) and then paint on the top coat. Getting rid of as much of it with a wire brush drill attachment like Mikey said is advisable too.
