This might seem an odd question with cars out there over 100BHP!!

I am ugrading my 1300 MH engine in my MkII Golf with a 1400 AEX Polo engine. The reason for this is that I compete in Road Rallies and am trying to stay in the sub 1400cc class until I know what I'm doing!

The problem I have is finding a manifold (if one even exists!) to fir the Carb onto the 1.4 AEX which came with injectors. I want to keep the carb since I can adjust it on the spot on events and also I kinda know where I am with a carb.

Does anyone know of a suitable manifold from another Polo model maybe.

Whatever I do with this engine I will need to be able to transplant it into a Polo late next year when we change to Enduro rallying which requires a completely standard engine/gearbox. I say this because whatever manifold I use will have to come from a model of Polo I can enter an enduro in.

Is this more a tweaking/tuning section or is there a better section for engine building?

if you have your heart set on an aex engine you could just stick the 1300HM head on the aex bottom end... straight fit!

The problem is that for the enduro events the engine has to be std to the car with it's normal fuelling, hence the 1400, 16V Polo next year!

The head does fit as I have it sat on the block on the stand now.

I have noticed that the mh pistons have quite a large amount removed in the crowns with hardly any combustion space in the head, and the AEX has an equal amount in the crowns & head. So would I be right in thinking that will reduce the overall cc by a little and increase the compression ration by quite a bit?

the swept volume will remain the same, but if the combustion chamber is bigger the compression ratio is higher, remember tho, that the stroke is longer on the aex engine so the copression ratio will naturally be higher
