Hi av got ma g40 n love it the way it is n its staying standard but am just buying a GT Ratter as a 2nd car... and looking in to turboing...

Now if i've got a turbo n plumbing all sorted what else would i need...

with a turb ready to bolt on wit zorst all sorted ect..

i know I'm gonna need a fmic an pipes to plumb that in

but on top of that am gonna need a new ecu and....you tell me...

i really dont know much about this but get the feelin it could make 4 a fun lil proj.

Do i need to start uprating pistons an rods an such like beacuase thts all beyond me!!! i realise this will all be affectedby boost levels n such like sorry for being so vague!

Any advice appreciated...

Club members will've seen this (with pics) in the Club Polo 2007 yearbook, but here's the draft of an article I wrote on turboing a Mk3 Polo.

I wish someone would do this, comes up so much & I don't think anyone really knows if the engine will last

It's pointless, as to do things even reasonably well costs more to do to a GT than it does to buy a G40 motor etc. and turbo that.

If you're willing to be pikey and live with the limitations then you can do it dirt cheap, but it's more the kind of thing you'd do for amusement than to get a quick Polo! I know someone who's collecting bits to do just that, but he's certifiable - one of his previous creations was a Mk2 Breadvan with a Lancia Delta motor in the front, and his current Derby project is loopy too.

But isnt yours a turbo'd cl???

or u workin on a g40 lump...

ad do that but mines only on 40k so a dont wanna mess bout with that, so a wanna do the gt but dnt think a could afford t start by buying a g40 engine they go fo bout a k dont they?

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Halt proceedings! Off topic I know but Andy, I need to hear more aout this Lancia engined mk2. U have a link or anything??

My actual engine is a combination of GT, CL and G40 bits - but the important bits are G40. Big costs to do a GT nicely would be lowering the compression ratio and engine management, you could do it on the cheap with a couple of headgaskets to lower the CR and run a blow-through carb setup, but you'd never see the same power; torque and driveability as doing things properly.

@dougstar21 - I've only ever seen pics of the car, had the underbonnet bits of the Lancia welded into a Mk2 bay.

so if i could get the main part of a g40 engine the block an cylinders etc...to replace the gt stuff... then bolt on the turb plumb up an fmic... change the ecu...an ad be good to go??? what did u take you are ecu from or u have t get one custom made???

The ECU of a G40.

Just get a complete G40 lump with wiring loom and ECU

If you run a megasquirt ECU with 2 fuel rails (one petrol, one methanol) and use methanol when on boost you wont have to lower compression as it has a far higher effective ron rating. You can map for 2 banks of injectors seperately no problems.

Pointless though, for the money you spend on custom making an inlet maifold, second fuel rail second pressure reg, second tank, second fuel pump etc etc etc (all need to be methanol specific too- i.e expensive) It's not worth it, and the fact that when you run out of methanol (which will happen far sooner than petrol) your engine goes bang.
