Anyone know how to? If so I need help! Full panells I'm fine with.. its the colour matching I'm shit with!

Basically all I know is:

1. Rub down the bad part down to either the bare metal or primer (depending how bad it is)

2. Get rid of rust (if any) or apply filler

2. Use primer (dont know which one, does it go on bare metal? Do i have to score the surface first?)

3. score the dry primer

4. re-apply if need be?

5. spray with colour

6. Then what?? How do I get the existing colour to match the new colour??

The process will be pretty much the same even if using aerosols- be careful though as some rattle can products can react with your original paint.

And as for getting it to match, that's what rubbing compound (i.e. G3) is for. Remember to use lots of water with it though, it's much more aggressive than something like T Cut.

Right, after reading that I'm very confused!!? I was planned on using rattle cans? I take it that'll be a VERY bad finish? So being a complete novice on bodywork..

Yeah fair play mate, s'all good. :)

Rattlle cans won't necessarily be a bad finish if you're just touching up small areas and not doing a whole panel.

You just have to remember it's all about the prep- getting the surface nice and smooth and then using thin layers of primer (flatted inbetween) then thin layers on paint to avoid runs. Also make sure your can isn't going to splutter, hold it upright to prevent this and not too close to the panel.

If you want the tools, be prepared to pay out a bit of cash.

You'll need a spraygun, air line, compressor (cheapo 2nd hand off ebay), regulator (to trap water before the paint gun) panel wipe, tack rags, mask, filters, measuring jug, decent thinners for mixing with paint, cheapo thinners for cleaning up...the list goes on, as I've learned.

And that's before you've bought your paint!

To be fair, if you wanted to get some experience you're welcome to come spend a day helping me with prepping the Derby, and I'll let you use my equipment another day to do what you want on your car in return?
