Driving to VIC check

I just wanted to check - I've been helping a friend get a Cat C car back together (he bought it crashed and has been repairing it). It's insured, it's passed an MOT, but it isn't taxed. It can't be taxed until the VIC check has been completed (because its only then that he can apply for the new V5C. It has a pre-booked appointment for the VIC check - am I right in assuming it can be driven to the VIC check and then immediately home again?
