Was removing the headlights off a 6N yesterday and undid the 2 torx bolts on the top, undid the indicators aswell but it looks like you need to take the whole front bumper off just to get to the torx bit on the underside of the head light. Does that sound about right? Seems like a bit of a stupid idea unless you have some torx keys. Torx bits that go on the end of a ratchet are to fat.

theres 2 torx bolts just under the top of the bumper.... sou may need to take it off unless.....

you have a ratchet with adjustable end,u might squeeze it in......

try using a snake driver aswell?(flexxy screwdriver)

No, you can get to it by removing the grille surround, rather than having to take off the whole bumper. There's even a small channel in the bumper just behind the grille surround under the headlight to allow you to get your torx screwdriver down there. The screw is also held in place by a small clip, so it doesn't fall out when you unscrew it. Saves a lot of swearing.

Yeah i can see the channel but the only thing is the torx bit is for a rachet and it won't get down there. Leaving me with having to take the bumper off!

I really do have to remove the front bumper on the goof to replace my smashed headlight, so consider yourself lucky.

I think the use of torx bits is to put you off doing the work yourself to be honest. VW make more money that way.

Are the torx bits you have actually individual sockets then? Normally they are 6 or 7mm 'pegs' and will fit in a multi-bit screwdriver.

Thinking of it, I think I might have them for a screwdriver. Was in a dumb ass mood when I was tinkering.

The problem I'm having is that they use those stupid torx bolts and they are nearly all rotten through so when I try an turn them it just shears the bolt that I'm trying to take out. Is ther eanyway I can get behind the bolt so I can twist it from behind with a set of mole grips, pilers or something similar.

nope, no way of getting round the backside

jus gon' havta use some force bwoy

try hammering a small straight screwdriver into the bolt, then turning it, with the help of some lubrication too
