Mate.. the car is mint.. A right good buy! I'm not complaining at all, It'll be something stupid like a loose wire or coneection or something... I hope!

my daily driver fiat bravo used todo that just before the driveshaft went

Have you checked the dizzy cap?

^^^^^^ as above.Could be a warped clutch, this will cause "hopping" at low speed in a low gear.

Mines done it for years, just cant be arsed to change it.

Check your oil breather pipe as well, if the breather pod is fucked it'll have oil in it and you'll be getting oil in with your fuelling, which causes jerks at high revs.

Right.. put some super-unleaded in... Its improved it.. It seems to do it more uphill and when the petrol is low.. Maybe a fubard fuel pump? (saying that, when my last fuel pump went you could hear it whirr and this one is quiet, can't eben hear it!)

Dizzy is original GT, dizzy cap and rotor arm look fine, HT leads need renewing but look good enough, same with plugs.

The charcoal canister has been rmoved at somepoint and both (clear and black) pipes have been blocked.. Should any of these be able to breath?

Also which one is the oil breather pod?

Clar pipe is a breather for the fuel tank, And should be able to breath, I didnt realise this untill i was wondering why every time i went to fill i use to get a flush of air come straight out,i just cut the hose smaller and connected it to the pipe clips on the left side.

The jerking could be the throttle potentiometer.

The what? Is that the same as the throttle position sensor/sender or throttle control valve? I've heard all these so am i safe in assuming they are all the same thing?

Could possibly be your knock sensor on the back of the block thats gone?? or try the cheap option first and get a new blue temp sensor that controls your engine management?

If you've put higher octane fuel in and it runs better perhaps the timing is too far advanced.

The fact you cant hear the fuel pump is strange, mine is pretty obvious. It might be worth checking the pump is working properly my car runs without the fuel pump in the tank plugged in, so maybe it just isn't pulling it's weight.

Yeah.. Gonna Have a look today.. My 1.0's pump is obvious, My old GT's pump was when the petrol was low.. This seems non existent!

Whats the knock sensor do?

Right.. I can hear my fuel pump now.. Still not sure what it is? I've cleaned the plugs, played with the screw on the AFM and the screw on the TB.. I tad improvement.. Still not right tho!?

Could try some carb cleaner in the throttle body? Injection cleaner?

  • Author

Yeah.. was told that.. How do you get the injectors off?

GT's don't have a knock sensor.

And you don't need to take the injectors out to clean them, just run a can of injector cleaner through your next tank of petrol.

UPDATE: Right... Changed the plugs (super 4's), HT leads (bosch copper core), dizzy cap + rotor arm, oil, oil filter, air filter and coolent..

Still doing it.. But I have discovered that the hall sensor on the dizzy is loose.. The clip that holds the plug onto the dizzy is broke.. Could this be it???

Could be...if not I would still look at replacing it for the engine to work correctly.

My hall sensor is loose on my gt and i had it checked and its fine i have seen a few mk3s with a loose hall sensor. Could take the dizzy off and have a look? I would change the blue temp sensor awell

Mine's loose also. Car is fine.
