Nankang/Ditchfinder

Featured Replies

I know nankangs are known as ditchfinders, but the tread on the NS2 looks pretty decent and it seemed to perform quite well in the 'tyretest.com' ratings.

Anyone got any personal experience of these? Should i avoid them like the plague?

Its between these and bridgestone potenza RE 040 for my new wheels, and the nankangs only cost £27 compared to £38 for the bridgestone.

Finally will a 165/50 R15 give me nice stretch over a 6.5j rim? Or am i asking too much?

Thanks once again!

get the potenza's over the nankangs if i was you id try some toyo's i use them and they feel glued to the road

I've had them stretched on a 7x15 rim. They refused to seal properly on 1 tyre and everytime I went out in the car I had to put air in it. Other that that they were actually ok. As the guys following me to Crieff for the convoy down to the Polo Show last year will tell you!

The only car I've seen anyone consistantly put Nankangs on is used full time on a skid pan.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Bridgestone Potenzas any day.

I've got them, they seem... err, ditchfinders in the wet, maybe thats because its a too low car with crap shocks and only about 4mm of thread left.. but they're stretched on 7 and 8j rims, with 185/45/15 and they look great.

Fuck the ditchfinders.

My 6.5" RM's wearing 165/50 Bridgestones:

Or i could fit a space saver tyre! Looks like it will be the potenza's, assumnig i get the wheels of course! Where can i get spigot rings to convert a 60.0 centre bore to 57.1? Anyone got any ideas?

And thanks for the tyre advice - LMAO at Yeti!

Id throw Kumhos into the pot, aswell. Put them on the back axle of a 2.0i Pug 306,Avon on the front, and go for a spin in the country..

Never had a problem with Kumho or Avon. I have Kumho's on the truck and Avons on the Polo. The only thing with the Avons is they tend to tramline a bit, but Polos do anyway.

Yeah, the Avons gripped well. Just the Kumhos couldnt follow them on that car.

Going to be putting a set of the Bridgestone's on my sebrings at the weekend so can give you an idea of grip and stretch on a 6J rim. Quick preview tho...

Think Heartagram's pics say it all. Perfect stretch for a 165 potenza i reckon is over a 6.5J rim. I think they look over stretched on a 7J rim.

I know the potenza's come well recommended in all sizes and the ditchfinders have that name for one reason and one reason only. When it comes to tyres I avoid scrimping on price. At the end of the day it is what keeps the car in contact with the road so its kind of important.

I agree with you entirely stuey, I'm not trying to scrimp and i have no issues with buying the potenza's... I just wanted to see whether the general consensus was that the nickname was well-earned. And it would appear that this is the case.

I'll post some pics when i get the wheels sorted and on the car ;)

165/50 Bridgestone on a 7

To much if you ask me, always in the back of your head that they are going to go ping.

If they are fancy letting me on where you got them from?

got them on order from this tyre place!!! should have come in today, but not come in yet cus of traffic and floods n shit, so it'll wait now till when i come back from holiday as i leave late sunday night!!!

but i'll let you know if they can get more when i come back!!

i got potenzas 165/50s on some 6.5"

they've got a little stretch and the car still drives/handles ok.

also the bridgestones look nice too :-D

just save those few extra pennies - they are worth it.
