1.1 flying machine

Featured Replies

Hey guys and gals, some of you may have noticed my newbie thread that i started earlier today. Basically, I've purchased a 1.1 mk3 coupe for my little brother, which will eventually be his first car. He'll be driving next year but in the meantime I'm going to use the Polo while my Mk1 GTi is off the toad for the winter.

I'm looking to get abit more go from the Polo, apart from an engine swap, is there anything i can do to spped her up abit. I may have read somewhere that you can fit a Mk2 airflow meter to these Polos, or is that only an optionto the 1.3 GT's. What is a good exhaust system to get, ideally not too loud but looks the part. Anything thing else i could do

Thanks in advance

Scott :-D

If it hasn't had one, a damn good service is the first thing on my list for getting more go from a car.

the 1.05's dont have an air flow meter, so they cant be replaced. If you fit a gt inlet manifold, fuel rail, loom, distributor and ecu it makes a big difference. Makes the car rev much more freely and accelerates a fair bit harder. Add the gt head and cam into the mix and I reckon it would be even quicker. Still I would look at an engine swap for a 3F GT, its not that much work to do.

GT cams are a straight swap and make a MASSIVE difference! Jetex are good exhaust systems too.

I had a K&N Carb style air filter (stolen off a xr2i in a scrappy) and it fitted perfect and made more torque.

But yeah.. apparently GT MPI systems work, so you'll need the loom, ecu, inlet and injectors.. These make it fly so i've been told!

Or if your feeling naughty smack a G40 supercharger on it.. check youtube for that one!

if you are looking to do a few cheap mods to spruce it up a bit find a late 1.3 mk3 polo take the whole inlet manifold, throttlebody and injector off and slap it on, it has a much larger bore and gives a massive improvement in driveability. if you could be arsed a 1300 head would be good to for the same reason. doesnt cost much to do if you get the parts from the scrappy! the mk3 golf 1.4 also has the same setup as the late spec polo 1.3. also get a poloace chip!
