Brake upgrade

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a cheap brake upgrade for my little brothers 1.1 Polo Project. The brakes on it are poop and the front discs are heavily corroded so were going to have to spend some money at some point replacing them. Id rather purchase something with a bit more stopping power now than having to do it again a year later.

Can brakes from a Mk2 Golf be fitted easily enough?

what year Polo is this for?

K Reg 1992 1.1 Coupe

Polo G40 set up.. They are called VW type II callipers, found on all G40's, some Mk1 golf GTi's, some MK1/2 sciroccos and some Mk2 golfs..

Now you may need the carriers too off some of the above models.

These are basically the same as the standard brakes but vented to stop (or reduce) brake fade.

Also replce the master cylinder with a passat (of the same age) one.. its 22m so bigger, so better stopping power.

I have this set up on my polo (1991) which originally had identical brakes to yours.. This makes a MASSIVE difference!

Do a search for type II callipers in the for sale section.. you will find loads for around 40 quid.
