Ok so at the moment I've just got all the standard components (Polo Mk4 V Reg) apart from A Sony HU 4x45 with aux input which I use with my ipod.

I'm a student so I'm on a pretty low budget and I'm not really bothered about making sure everyone can hear my music, I just want decent quality sound that can go pretty loud and not distort.

I've been searching around on here and it seems that most people think the first thing to do is replace the door speakers. I've found some good deals on ebay for about £30. The only problem is fitting. I'm not entirley sure if I want to go for it myself as I reckon I'll mess it up. How difficult is it?

I've got the standard speakers near the window aswel. dash(?) speakers. I don't mind replacing these either but also not sure as they are a wierd shape and I don't know how I could fit them.

I've looked at amps but I'm really not clued up on my speaker knowledge and they seem a bit expensive. As for subs I reckon I could get adequte bass from a new pair of speakers or 6x9's as I would like to keep my boot space and dont want to shell out for an amp.

If anyone could offer advice on what they would do on a budget to get decent sound. I've got about £100 at the moment and this has got to include labour but I can always save. And also what they expect the labour time would be for fitting door speakers/ fitting dash speakers so I can go into Halfords and talk to them about it. Unless anyone is willing to do it at a cheaper price, I live in Hastings, E.Sussex.

If anyone could help me out that'd be really great, as you can probaly tell I'm quite the noob when it comes to speakers.

first off dont go to halfrauds for advise they are useless and expensive. buy yourself a haynes manual this will help you with taking bits of your car apart e.g. doorcards! on my mk4 i found the dash speaker pretty good (they are only tweaters anyway) so i left them in(you could just disconnect them though). i replaced the door speakers with jbl coax speakers (cant remember the size bout 6" i think) for the money they are superb speakers and you should be able to pick up a set for less than 40 notes. seeing as your budget is small i would simply upgrade your door speakers and spend a bit of money on sound deadening the doors before you fit them. it is really easy to fit speakers in the 6n so dont even think about paying the 30 pounds and hour a decent audio shop will charge you!

Cheers mate! Yeh i think I will give it a go myself because Halfrauds charge about £40 an hour! Gonna try and pick up a Haynes manual on ebay

Take a look at this guys guide, will give you a decent idea of the work involved. Although if that was me I wouldn't move the tweeters down there ...just replace/leave the original tweeters on the dash.
