Is there a VAG part or a type of adhesive strip required for the re-fitting of arches and sills?

When I removed mine I spent days cleaning the old stuff off - but it did do a good job!

Does it simply stop the arches / sills from vibrating on the paintwork and damaging it?

i just bought a new vag, passenger side arch for my Gt and it comes with the holes for the rivets and where the bump strip sticks out there is a adhesive fixer on there.

I dont think there is a vag part for the adhesive, but I'm sure any industrial adhesive/double sided tape or even some silicone sealer would do the trick.

I used sikaflex before on my old GT. But if you use that dont expect to get it all off the car in the future!

I went to vag and they gave me some double sided black tape stuff, looked awefully like license plate tape no matter how many times they said it wasnt!

It lasted all of about 4 days!

Then i heard the lovely sound of it falling off when driving!

yup, no more nails! I'm gonna try it on my arches and see what happens.

I think VW used to put a 'sealing cord' on the mating surfaces of bolt-on panels, like the wings. Similarly, the contact areas where the bolts are located have a piece of zinc foil placed in-between, to stop the two parts rusting together.

hi there, when i enquired at vw recently in leics to get a new rear plastic arch on my mk3 due to a crack, i was laughed at an told they dont do them anymore, so if you could advise on where abouts you got yours from then I'd greatly appreciate it!.......
