As the tite say's really.. i've heard people putting Golf AFM's and Ignition coils on..

1) Why?

2) Whats Golf are they from? any Mk's and Part numbers?

no advantage, its just old age that kills them. a new standard coil will be as good

The golf AFM is bigger so should allow for a higher flow rate through it, and less loss of power. but its still a big bloody flap which isnt exactly grand for airflow. Hotwire AFM's are much less restrictive but it might be an arse to fit one. MAP sensors are the way forward IMO, just it will be an arse to get any other kind of sensor to give the same output.

The golf coil is a higher current coil IIRC so theres more energy in the spark, meaning you should get less misfiring and cleaner more efficient running because the mixture will ignite better.

As Andy says, get the 8v as the 16v ones don't take too kindly to 8v motors as I've heard from peoples previous expereinces. The CO POT will need screwing in to work better with a 1.3, and the spring tension will need slight adjustment.

As far as I'm aware its a digifant 8v GTi coil WITH amp.. the polo mk3 are one unit where as the golf is the coil and amp!
