I stupidly ran out of petrol the other day. It sucked all the gunk out of the bottom of the tank and right through the system... So I replace the filter, fill up the tank, chuck in a wee bottle of redex and it's fine.... for 30 miles. let it settle for a few hours, and it's fine for 10 miles.. and so it continues. I'm at a loss. I've just replaced the fuel filter and the fuel is running fine through the injector when it's actually running so where is my intermitant clogging coming from? Is the injector going to need taking apart and cleaning? is it that fat gauze filter inside the tank that mr. haynes told me to ignore in all but extreme fuel contamination situations?

i would check your new fuel filter to see if it has been contaminated by any bits of crud that may have been left in the fuel pipes

There's no way to really check it though. The petrol that I got out of the old filter was really dirty though. It then ran for 30 or so miles fine, with a full tank of fuel.. The other filter I was talking about is actually in the accumulator, not the tank. I have a feeling that this may be my problem area. The injector is another potential problem area but it looks like it's working fine by the way that I was driving a few miles at a time..

The Haynes manual doesn't talk about it.. is the accumulator a sealed unit or is it servicable?

I tried that.. It just dies after a few miles. I'm going with leaving the fuel for as long as I can to properly settle and then rag the whole tank through the car as soon as I can. If I can get this whole tank through it'll be fine...

more bumping... I left it for 4 days.. it drove 15 miles or so. and the same thing happened again.

I really am at a loss and feel like chucking the bastard machine on ebay at the moment. So what would your plan of attack be? Get the injector cleaned properly (ASNU or whatever it's called)? change the accumulator thing? any other ideas?
