Hey Guys, I'm New To this Polo Scene I've Had ma Car a While Now, Its The Baby Of The Mk3's (1050cc) with a 4 speed box and i was wondering if i could source a 5 speeder would it just slot straight in with no hassle with gear linkages etc?? or jus change the engine to a 1.3? but I'm on apprentice wages so Moneys an Issue!

Yeah you can swap gearboxes, you can also swap engines with relative ease. How much have you got to spend?

Easy enough to do. You'll need a 5 speed linkage (though you can bodge a 4-speed to work). I _think_ all mk 3 ARB's can accomodate a 5 speed box, but you'll need someone to confirm this. You'll find most 5 speed boxes are off 1.3 SPI engines, these will probably be too tall and lose a lot of get up and go. If you can't find a 1.05 5-speed box, a GT one has similar ratios.

You shouldn't need to change anything on a mk3 to accomodate the 5-speed box apart from the front upper gearbox mount. As long as the car isnt a polo fox everthing should be there to take a 5-speed.

Cheers Lad's!, is it jus as easy to change the Engine to a 1.3 with Looms etc?

Foxs never had 5-speed as an option therefore it's less likely to have the 5sp arb or linkage. It probably will have them though, especially if it's a late one.

the 1.05 and 1.3 spi have the exact same loom. You just need to use the 1.3 ECU
