I'm looking in 2 converting my 1.0 litre 2 a g40,any got any advice for me?what will i need,will it go staight in?will the looms just plug in?any advice will be helpful!

from what i know which isnt very much you would need a full eng wiring loom and ecu brakes would be the first to uprate so you dont get in to probs early on !! also fueling side needs to be transplanted !! and finding a decent g 40 engine etc is the 2nd problem !! gear boxes are different too !

Off the top of my head you'll need the following to make a start at a good conversion (some items are optional and some I'll no doubt have over looked):

Complete Engine w/ ECU & loom: It would be best to get the engine from a car where you can see it running, this will make for a more straight forward swap. You need the G40 loom and ECU as these are both specific to the engine. A lot of G40 engines are now well past 100k miles. Always keep in mind you may need to flex your wallet and pay for replacement parts/rebuilds. There are plenty of specific G40 parts on the engine...which are never cheap.

Gearbox: G40 specific and has the best ratios for the engine. Best to get this with the engine as they aren't very common on the used market. It is possible to use other boxes such as the 8P or GT items.

Charger: Again try and get this with the engine. Ideally your looking for a charger that has been well serviced by the likes of PSD or Jabba Sport. Budget about £300-500 for a full rebuild & some porting if the history is unknown...it may just required and inspection and service which will be a fair bit cheaper. It is about £30 + P&P for PSD to crack it open and have a look see. Keeping the charger healthy is very important as failures can be very very expensive.

Inline fuel pump: You will require the G40 specific inline fuel pump. These units provide more fuel to the engine than those on lesser powered models. A new Bosche unit costs ~£130 if I remember rightly. Absolute requirement.

Exhaust: You will require a larger bore exhaust for the G40 engine. An original VW item will suffice or perhaps a custom SS item from the likes of powerflow would nice.

Drivers side ARB mount: Required for proper clearence of the charger pulleys...not sure how much of an issue it presents but I have heard of people having to cut away at a non-G40 specific item to fit certain pulleys.

G40 Track control arms: Not a requirement, these were specific to the G40 suspension set up and should be better than those found on other models. I seem to recall them costing about £70...there or there abouts.

GT/G40 Rear beam. Contains a small anti-roll bar to stiffen the rear end. Usually change hands for ~£50. Really easy to fit and gives you the chance to change out the rear beam bushes and tighten up the handeling when you replace the 1.0 item.

G40 VWII Calipers w/239 mm vented disks: Your 1.0 will have solid disks. The vented disks should be seen as an absolute priority. Ideally you'd want to go about improving the brakes beyond the standard items. The G40 can take quite a lot of stopping when speeds rise as quickly as they do. Braided hoses, uprated pads and disks would be a wise move.

I'm converting a 1.0 to PY power just now and it's an awfully expensive affair. I am using an engine which hasn't been run in years. It requires a fuel rebuild before I can turn it over...pricey

Don't forget you'll need to have enough money to insure a GRP 15 car and then some...apprently conversions demand slightly higher yearly premiums.
