hi new to this forum was looking for solution to my polo running very warm.

it overheated about a month ago and put it down to the water pump as there was poor circulation so changed pump and stat and the car has been fine till a day ago, the temperature goes up to about 110º and then cools back down then up again, the stat is opening when it should and fan is coming on but still gettin hot. i have also completly bled air from the system to no help.

i noticed some bubbles coming into the expansion tank every 10seconds or so with cap off, is this my head gasket on its way out ?

the car has done 170000 miles and still sounds like it runs ok and starts first time everytime there is no water in oil and oil in water but tank level needs topping up every week from below minimum

any help would be much appreciated

Obvious question is if there is any signs of a leak?

Headgasket's a possible, but as you say, you'd have thought it'd show some cross contamination.

I've never known it on a polo, but cracked block is a minor suspect.

Is it a Mk2 (round headlight) or a Mk3 (square headlamp)?

hi thanks for your reply but on journey home the engine went pop with steam every where head gasket deffinately gone so now got to change and see if i find any other damage when head is off, didnt think it would go that quickly thanks for reply

At least you know what's wrong with it now

Head gasket on a Mk2 isn't the ahrdest of jobs by a long way. Can also be a good excuse for a bigger engine

its a mk3 with sqare headlights looking at your first reply :-) will see what it looks like when head off then like you say bigger engine :-D thanks mate

1.3 SPI plugs straight in I'm told, just change the ECU.

Or if you get the engine loom and fuel pump, then NZ/3F(GT)/PY(G40) all become options.
