what about a G60 setup mate?

Tarox G88 280mm discs and Tarox Corsa pads

Fantastic setup, discs have taken a huge amount of abuse and pads give massive stopping power but are designed for track use.

On the rear I have EBC 239mm solid discs and green stuff pads.

Give of very little brake dust.

how do you get a rear disc setup ? as I've heard all diesel models have them? but strangely mine doesent?!

Used the setup from a mk5 GTI. Stub axels and hubs etc.

i was lookin to do the rear disc conversion later in the year when i have some money, till then i was really just lookin for a cheap upgrade, plus the scrap yards round ere lack in parts n finding a g60 set up might b fun.

so i thought the uprated pads n discs would give a large improvment especialy at higher speeds as they tend to fade, as the brakes at lower speeds do the job.

uuuhhhhh sounds cheap ish as alot are crashed so a scrapper probably will do thanks... is there a guide anywhere that you know of?

and them discs and pads you mentioned should be decent when there hot but when its raining and youve got trackday pads on its alot harder to get the temperature in them so there not as good.. as i found out in the mini last weekend :oops:

Could get braided hoses too ofcoarse. You want an improvement then yes I would suggest getting some grooved discs and uprated pads. These generally will give better braking performance but with a higher chance of warping them.

I bought my g60 setup new from VW.

Yeh if you can get it from a scrappies then good. I bought my rear setup new from VW and does cost a good £500.

how much is the g60 set up new and how hard to fit the new clipers do the hoses need to be done too???

Cant remember exactly how much. Expensive I think lol.

Fairly easy to do. Only thing is that I still haven't finished mine. Trying to identify a bracket that goes onto the caliper which the brake hose connects to.

oh rite why will uprated discs and pads lead to warping may i ask??? surly warping is down to over heating n these pads n discs will b made for thos higher temps???

Yeh the extra heat generated from the improved friction can cause warping. I did this to 2 sets of 256mm performance discs.

o rite didnt think this happened cus of the improved discs. well i might as well try it for £60 tis cheap for what I'm gettin really imo

The 280mm conversion on the 16v is really straightfoward, as all you need are the carriers and the discs/pads, as the 16v hubs will take the 280mm carriers in place of the standard 256mm ones, and the calipers are the same. I think I saw a guide on UK-Polos, and you don't even need to disconnect the calipers from the brake hoses. Just bolt the existing calipers to the new carriers, new discs, new pads, off you go.

just read the guide on ukpolo n it works out bit more expensive but seems worth it I'm guessing this would fit under 15" wheels?

wer can i get the carriers had a quick look on GSF but only seems to be calipers?

Yes G60 is bigger but you need at least 15" wheels. Got mine this morning in the post. You will also need 16v calipers to fit them.

Or get the 16v set up but you need at least 14" wheels.

8v = 238mm disks

16v = 256mm disks

G60 = 280mm disks

i think I've already got the valver size as they are vented and i ddnt think the 8v ones were...? so a upgrade will be on the cards to G60 no matter what.. please can you give me a list of parts as i can get them ordered or ask in the wanteds thanks alot

EDIT: the wheesl size should be ok as I've got 15" c class merc rims... i just hope they fit over them

my 8v ones are vented

ahh I'm not sure then i will have to measure them... it should say in haynes aswell i will go and find out

oh I've got the type II calipers... what did these come on then?

Edited by POLOMON

So these, Tarox G88 Front Discs Mk2 G60 280mm BR-DI-FD-280-TAR-0202G88 would fit a valver on standard calipers? Where do you get carriers from?
