I am having one of these moments that I am just thinking what the hell have I done buying a GTi. Basically 2 weeks ago, completely filled up oil to the brim, since then been driving around normally doing about 40/60 miles a week. Used the 10K Boost on it this week, and all of a sudden yesterday I get a lack of oil sign pop up on dashboard.

Checked the oil and it's almost empty. Went to VW bought Synta Silver and filled it up, driving back on motorway I get the Exhaust Management Light coming on! I've checked the obvious signs of a headgasket and it's definitely not that. Any other suggestions? I need help!!!

but is there smoke comin outta your exhaust? (just asking to cross off a possibility for sure)

never heard of gti's having oil consumption problems...

oh wait, it could be leakin onto your o2 sensor, meaning leak..

get under there and see if you see any serious slick

sounds normal then. a bit of smoke under hard accel. happens.. but as i said, take a peek underneath

On edition38 I've been told it might be the oil stem seals

have you checked for any leaks??is the engine underneath dry? shouldnt be using that much. mine uses about 400 mil per 3k miles which is every oil change for me. which is pretty normal for a g40 which uses a little oil for the charger but even a n/a car will use a little oil but no where near that much. and even if it were burning it there would be serious smoke from the exhaust i would think. so id check for leaks. gotta be a leak with that sort of loss.

very likely.

The smoke under acceleration and the emission control warning light could be connected. If the engine is burning quite a bit of oil, (the smoke will be blue) then this could damage the lambda sensor which is quite sensitive to the likes of oil and antifreeze.

As Dan says, 1> litre of oil in less than 200 miles is far too much, so a little poke around is a good way to start. If you’re burning all of it, there'd be quite a haze behind you.

I think it'd be odd for the valve stem oil seals to have gone on such a young/ low mileage car. If they had, you'd get blue smoke immediately after starting, especially when left overnight.

oh shit... over filling oil can lead to cat failure... so tahts y you are exhaust thing is flashing probably auqi over filled ma step dads and him being a mechanic new what they had done and took it in a d complained he gt a free auqi teddy (there like £80) and a free cat for when it goes ANYTIME so i would get taht checked asap!!!!!

Definitely going to take your advice, there's a specialist like 2 minute drive away from me. I am just working from 7 til 7 everyday of the week at the moment in central London and don't have a chance at all to even get a chance to catch up with what's on tv.

Well I've had a proper proper look at the engine bay today, there appears to be a leak right at the bottom of the engine, so the good news is it's not burning the oil. Still have to figure out what the Exhaust emissions warning is and why there's white smoke coming out of it!

Maybe the lambda probe, or something else, as i said get it to a specialist, glad that i could help you.
