Right little update. I tried again with the lacquer but messed it up again.. So now I'm gonna sand all the lacquer off and give it a nice coat of Yellow. The lacquer isn't even needed because I'm using 2K paint!

Got this strut brace too..

Somebody advised me fit the body panels on the car because the colour won't match properly when complete, seen as though its Yellow. So I fitted and edged the doors today, and got the wings edged ready for fitting. So when they're on, I can give the wing/door a coat of paint and then a final coat along with the rest of the car

Hung the wings on the wall to make life easier

Then a nice lick of paint in the necessary areas

Ps Petrol cap on too and painted on the inside

very good atention too detain can you see the yellow on the door pillars or anywhere on teh inside of the car?

Yeah you can see a little bit. About 1cm of it!

ahh so you just gonna ignore that or touch it up with a brush or something? and is this 1cm around the doors?

Little update

Got the wings on so now the doors and wings are almost ready for the first coat of paint. Passenger side wants the delocking finished and a few little dents gone first though...

I've just sprayed the inside and edges of the tailgate too, ready to fit...

I've nearly got all the runs out the paint and its almost flat again which is good! My arms are dead though :(

Got the spoiler fitted to the tailgate..

Exhaust needs adjusting down. I've done it now but its only a temporary job the way I've done it :p

Edged the rear bumper and partly fitted it..

Exhaust adjusted.. Notice I've polished it too and it now has no burnt tip which I HATED!!

New look bum almost there now!!

And my new super lightweight transparent bonnet :p

-are you hiring a compressor and gun or you got one. how much did they cost?

-how did you do they bay so neatly without taking the engine out?!?!

Polo forum, because my mate has a Polo so I was searching for a club for him to join and I just ended up joining myself. Kinda settled because its a good community :p I like seeing some of these nicely done Polos too

2K paint I can't describe. The 2K means you mix 2 particles to one as far as I'm aware. (2 particles of paint to one particle of hardner. Whereas 1K is one particle of paint to one particle of base coat thinner) 2K lasts alot longer than the ordinary 1K which is the stuff you'd mainly find in the usual aerosols etc.

I have my own compressor and spray guns. It cost me a few hundred for the whole set up - Well worth it in my opinion.

The engine bay question again!! Haha, I don't know to be honest. Its all about the preparation when it comes to spray painting and I took ages to prep the bay! Removed all the stuff around the engine bay such as the power steering fluid tank, washer tank etc.

Its a Group 4 insurance and it'll be classed as a full bodykit, so hopefully not gonna be TOO bad! I've had a quite of £2.5k if I remember correctly, but I hope to find a better one :p

every paint job needs laqour otherwise its gonna be really flat

are you using a low preasure gun?

what size is you comprssor?

if you mess up (e.g a run in the laqour) its easily fixable.

wait for it to dry then wet flat it out, once finished it will need to be mopped ..

2K paint has lacquer mixed in.. thats what the paint seller told me and he told me not to lacquer it. 2.5hp compressor, 55 litre tank

went to look at some of these on saturday mate as a mates after another one..Also that breaking one i was on about is beign rebuilt for some reason,,,dont know why as my mates had loads of bits off of it.

so you will be using a 2k soild gloss then

your compressor is far too small. you need to look at the CFM ratings of it, most spray guns need a high CFM rating to work properly. i take it you are using a standard spray gun and not a high volume low pressure one?

I've used 2k solid colour and not lacquered it loads of times and never had any issues with it being dull. after good buffing you cant tell the difference, the bumpers and rear valance on my mk4 are painted in straight colour coat and you cant see any difference compared to the rest of the car

gofasterpinch - I've been to about 5 bodyshops and asked if its okay, and the guy at the paintshop and he said its fine! I've been told to spray at 2 bar! Somebody at a bodyshop has offered to give it a real good buffing to her when shes painted

If you went with those red and black wheels (i cant remember the name now) you could change the red for the yellow you have on the car? i think that would look pretty cool

If i were you i would have done all the body work then sprayed the whole car in one go. IMO would get a much better finish
