Hello,

I've recently developed a problem that has occurred twice so far after I took my polo in for MOT (which it passed). When I turn the ignition key, sometimes my clock and mile counter reset on the dash and also my rev counter needle is vibrating on the zero mark.

Has anyone ever encountered this? What could be the problem? How can I fix it? It seems like it’s a loose connection. The car is kept in a garage so it shouldn't be moisture.

My Polo is 1.4CL 1999.

I found out the problem for this (if anyone ever gets the same problem). My battery was gone! A few weeks later I left the radio and lights on while playing in the garage, then when I was finished, switched them off.

The next day, car wouldnt start. Called RAC and he told me the battery was very old and needed replacing (it was the original!). Now i don't have this problem anymore!

I took my battery out saturday morning to get better access to the washer pump - The hose to the tailgate had become disconnected. Once I'd put everything back together i went to start the car and this happened to me. Happened again sunday morning. Have checked battery terminals and the live was a bit loose. Have tightened it back up and hopefully this has solved it as battery should be ok. Will update later once I've driven it again

Sorry for off-topic but is this a common problem? Just had to reconnect mine, came off beside the rear seats in the panel just after the rear door, completely soaked the right rear seat, the washer had never worked since buying it and I thought it was a block initially.

Mine hadnt worked since i bought it either and was getting on my nerves so sorted it out. Those who have posted about it say that it either goes behind the rear door card or beside the pump under the bonnet. Unfortunatly you were unlucky enough for it to go inside the car. I've rammed the tube back in as far as it'l go and put a circlip on it so it def wont go again. Might take the door card out and do the same there just to be on the safe side.
