Went to look at a GT yesterday, engine looked in great nick and ran fine apart from being slightly tappety, and a good service should cure that according to the owner.

I took it for a short test drive up and down a lane, and when the revs drop when you change gears from 1st to reverse (or vice versa) it stalled a couple of times. I'm no retard driver so it wasnt the fact that i just cant drive! But unless you kept revving the engine whilst changing gear it was wanting to stall. The engine was fairly cold - it had been idling for 5/10 mins before i drove it and even when i was done the needle was still at the bottom of the temp guage.

It idled fine, revs were constant and didnt hunt or drop at all, it was just while it was being driven. A slightly strange problem, and i wondered if anyone knew what this could be? Will the also be sorted by a full service with fluid and filters being changed?

It seemed a great little engine and I'm hoping it will be what I'm after, i just don't want to buy something that could have yet more potential problems! And i mean no disrespect to the owner - quality guy, and really knew his stuff! But as i don't know much about GT's i don't want to pay out and discover its gona cost me even more cash to fix!

I'd get the thermostat changed IF you do decide to take the plunge with it. That should sort your low running temperatures. As for the stalling it sounds like it could be the throttle potentiometer, though if the hall sender goes that too can cause unexpected stalling.

Just realised the clutch cable was knackered, had to push it all the way to change gears... Perhaps yours truly was a 'tard and let the gear in a little soon hehe...
