Replacing blown engine

Featured Replies

A friend of mine has bought a mk4 polo on a m plate, so its an early one.

The engine is the 1050cc spi and its shot. Basically he bought the car chap with the intention of repalcing like for like and either using it o selling it on.

It turns out the engine (AEV i think??) was only used for 18 months and is proving impossible to get a replacement.

Does anyone knw of a direct replacement engine that will bolt straight in using the standard gearbox??

I know there some knowledgable guys on here so hopefully you can advise on options.

I don't really want to be dealing with 'engine conversions' or 16v options as we want a basic straight swap if possible.

Thanks in advance

Ash

was that engine not in a Mk2f?

I think it will be an aea? my early (m reg) mk4 has this engine code, however it is a 1.6, but also and spi. not sure if this helps. On another note the 1.6 spi would be fine to replace it with i would have thought?

its definately a 1 litre

yeh but i was saying mine was a 1.6, was suggesting you could replace it with an spi 1.6 as an engine replacment?

I have a 1.4 8v from a mk5, i am pretty sure it would be the same set up and i'm sure the ratios would be the same since its only 10bhp more

I'v also got the gearbox if you wanted it anyway...not asking for much mate

jeez, i thouhgt this was going to be a naasty thread by the title. thank god its not yours!
