What car you got? You should be able to drop it 60mm on a Mk2/3 on 15s if you get some sensible tyres and maybe the arches pulled a tad.

its a mk3 i might try a 70/60 philj kit??? what you think???

if your putting them on that square in your avatar then make sure the offset is close to std vw one and that the wheel is not over 6j wide. you can run 165/50 tyres and drop it till the floorpan hits the deck and the arches will never scrub and you wont need to mod the arches either. you could go wider but you will then have to mod arches. i would avoid low offset wheels as i dont think they look right with the squares arches.

i ant got the squareback any more its a coupe now with 15 by 6 g60 steals on it.

Dude, Hit a set of 14's if you want low

I well want to stick with the g60's tbh

on mine I've got 6.5x15" and its lowered 60/40,you will need arch mods if you wanna go much lower I've had to have the arches done and you will need 195/45/15 as most other tyres will scrub ,you may be able to get lower if you stretch tyres/flare arches etc. pics of mine are somewhere on this site if you wanna take a look

you can still go low if you use 165/50 r15s they dont scrub on my square so they wouldnt on a coupe. you could prob get away with a 175 wide tyre on a coupe

i always use 165/50 so i should be cool. we thinking 70/60 philj kit would be cool :)

yer atht will be low and rock on g60 steels are they std silver?

  • Author

yer they are silver at the mo but i might be getting them powder coated black with the rim silver.

I have 15"s on mine and i would watch out when lowering iff i was you ..

Id watch the front wheel bearings and tyres too .. they wear so quick !

What is the width .. Mine are 195 .. Thats another factor in how low you can go ...

You can roll the arches and fit them inside but can you get anywere near full lock ??

Hmm thats the question you gotta be asking urself ..

Id advise going for some 14" .. preferebly 13" to get it low matey ..

I'm sure you have seen all the guys on the VW forums running 13" when there dropping ridiculously ...

Dont go too low tho .. Foolish i say ..

Keep it classy .. Make sure it still handles too ..

15" give you a imense amount of grip on mk3's dont they !

Vick_N went down 70mm on a venom kit, he ran 15x7.5 on the front and 15x9 on the back iirc, with no arch work (though i may be wrong...) and he never had any trouble with his G.

I'm going 40mm on 15's for now, got a -40mm spring and shock kit off the bay for £65. Only a quick fix til i can make up my mind on the coilover issue hehe...

EDIT: The size of the wheels isnt as important as the offset and tyre choice to be honest.

sounds good is it the one in the link posted as ifit is then wow NICE

'Quick fix' i like it ever changed the suspension on the front of a Mk3 before!!!

If you're gonna do it do it properly the first time because it can be a very time consuming job dismatling the front suspension on a Mk3

Yeah well i understand that - when i say quick fix i mean that its not my long term plans, but its a start for the time being.

Front shocks are sweating, and id planned to lower it later... Got the lowering kit for roughly the same price as the standard items from GSF, so might as well do that til i decide whether I'm going to get coilies or lower springs.

Yer its the one in the link. Its abit diffrent now.

I recon i could go down 60 or 70mm.

anyone want to sell me some srings to test it out lol

Dude, i've got a similar thing in the pipe line, got a set of sebrings which i'm pickup from the refurbers at the wknd (this time for definite) and 165/50/15's to go on. I'm running the HnR kit 60/40 and with those tyres it should look pretty good and have not a lot of arch issues. Could pop round when there on and show you?
