My 'Check Engine Light' has come on, this is not the first time this has happend, but the third time in just over

2 years, the last time it was an O2 Lambda sensor, and the time before that the same.

I bought myself an 'Autel Maxscan VAG 405' Code reader, cost was about £86, because i know the average bill at

the garage for this repair is around £200 (with part included).

Below was taken when checking the 'Brakes' for error codes, the ignition was turn on, but the engine remaind off througout, i'm guessing the 'ABS error' is because the engine is off, the brake switch error is "i'm guessing" an old uncleared error, as i had this replaced about 8 months ago, as the brakes, lights, and gearbox inhibitor switch seems

to work ok.

The info and help i need relates to which O2 sensor the error relates to, is it the one at the exhaust manifold, or after the 'Catalitic converter', and , is there any othe part which might be causing this O2 sensor to fail like this (MAP sensor maybe?, some other part), i can only say, this seemed to have happen when i filled up at Shell garage (used V Power, which i've always used) gave the car a run on a motoway, got home parked up, started the car later and the 'Check Engine Light' appeared, intermittently at first, now it's on constanty.

I'ts a Polo 1.4 E Auto petrol 2001(X reg), any help or advice would be very grateful.

B1 S1 is "bank one sensor one"so it is the lambda at the exhust manifold. i see this fault often , your fault is in the heater circuit of the probe. I would fit a new VAG probe and repin the connector that the probe plugs into on the engine loom.This should fix it for good.

Replace your brake light switch aswell, its above the brake pedal an is a push and turn fit, they fail often.

Thanks phillgx125, when you say repin the connector, do you mean just get an VW OEM replacement, and plug it into

the existing socket for that sensor, or, do you mean not to plug it into it's original socket but somewhere else, or are you saying, to change the position in which the pins are in the plastic connector, if this is the case how would they go?

sorry I'm not the best at explaining things!!, basically you remove the wires from the plastic connector for the probe on the engine loom, on the end of these wires(5 or 6 of them) there will be female pin ends, cut off these pins and solder ( or heat shrink) on new female pins , these are avail from VAG (get the gold plated ones!!)

there are numbers on the connector,so take note of which colour wire goes into each numbered hole.If in doubt do one wire at a time.

you will need to slide the purple lock tab out to get the pins out and use pin tools to realease the pins from the connector.

Its not too difficult to do if your carefull and take your time.
