Well if you have a crash or anything, if your insurance group find out youve modded your car without telling them they arent gona pay out damage costs (correct me if I'm wrong). Technically anything that isnt standard is modification. Plus if your wheels got stolen, its probably worth paying the extra cash to be honest. But its upto you mate.

Aye, it makes the car more desirable and so increases the chance of it being stolen. And the wheels could also potentially affect the cars handling, both cases mean the risk to the insurer is greater.

SO yes declare them - definitely worthwhile in my eyes, but other people don't do it and might get away with it fine. I just don't like the idea of not getting a payout if i crashed my car.

I believe on many policys (certainly mine at least) the modifications themselves aren't insured - so if you're fully comp and your wheels get nicked they'll only pay for standard steel ones (or alloy if that's standard from factory).

Even so you should declare them, for like £50 a year it's nothing compared to what could happen (fines, no payouts)

It depends on the insurance company. If you non-disclose to your insurance comapny and they find out they can cancel your policy. This also means that you may find it harder to get a policy elsewhere. So it isn't just the problem of if you crash that you have to worry about.

I smashed a focus that had heaps of undeclared modifications on it, alloys, induction kit, angle eyes and the list goes on, so i just casually went to the yard where it was being kept for the insurance company to look over it after the smash, asked if i could take my non standard parts off and they said yes. So next day in with the tools, alloys and that off and still got the cars true value.
