Hey everyone

I have fitted a 1.8Carb .. 1.4 Throttle body .. Had a lil bit of a remap .. Stripped completely ..

I want to start spending a little more money now ...

I have a Cam on the the way a GT Cam ..

Will this make any power gains ??

Will the 1.3 cylnder head fit ?? Cause any power gains ??

What else can i do ??

Would love some advise .. my polo is real quick already for a 1.0l love thrasshing the chavs in 1.2 corsa's and especially all those saxo's haha .

gt head and cam will give good gains along with your other mods. just outa intrest does your polo idle ok with the 1.8 injector?

Mmmm .. Depends .. I have the ocasional problem when cold but then you always will modding any engine really ..

I tell you what though the Carb really makes a astonidhing diffrence on the 1.0CL Coupe's

Need to get me a head now then ..

Might aswell get it all done at once .. although little scared about the seals in the engine giving way .

Just do a complete engine swap, youll make a lot more power and BHP per £ you'll not get cheaper.

Ahhh i wish i could .. I think i maywell buy the whole engine use the cam and head and then i can always wack it in when i become board of playing with the 1.0l lump . Want to see how well i can make it go . Its getting better .

I have heard of a few going around for around £150 .

I'm considering doing a similar thing but using the digifant mpi as well to create a 1L short stroke gt engine, dont think it would be far off a normal gt bhp wise, might have a far amount less in the way of torque due to the shorter stroke, but it should make for a rev happy little engine

Expand on this ... My lack of knowledge maywell be holding back the performance of my little polo .

basically my idea is to use a 1litre block and keep the gt head, cam, gearbox and mpi injection, so the only difference would be that it is a shorter stroke. I've no idea if anyone else has done this before or if it will even work its just an idea in my head! so in your case it would involve swapping the head for a gt one, fitting the gt engine bay wiring loom and fitting the mpi digifant fuel injection. you could take things further by having the heads and throttle bady ported and polished, fit a 4 branch etc and I reckon 80-90 bhp would be on the cards. I would love to see someone do it!

I don't see the point in putting everything bar the block of a GT onto a 1.0L.

Doesn't make sense either way. If you buy a full GT conversion for the work its gonna be would be worth just sticking the whole GT lump in it. More power, less hassle and less time taken up.

If you buying all the parts singley you'll probably end up spending more than a out right GT conversion.

I know some people want to do it to be different. But theres no point in being different if its completely pointless.

You wouldn't spend £150,000 building a Ferrari 360 replica so why spend money and time on an engine thats not really worth it. Sometimes theres a reason certain things haven't been done. Sometimes because its utterly pointless.

Thats just my two cents though.

the point of using the one litre block is to have an engine that will rev up faster than a 1300 and therefore in theory would (in a light shell like the polo) accelerate faster than a normal gt, fair dos the top speed will be lower but who needs top speed when 70 is the fastest you can travel in the uk anyway. there was a mini cooper made that had a similar bore size to the 1275, but a shorter crank so the displacement was around 1100 going by your theory why did cooper bother to make it?!

and another thing is that the ports on the 1.3 head may be too big go give any gains. The shape of the ports in a 1.0 head are much better so even though smaller may flow more air than the 1.3 heads.

but thats only a personal opinion.

A 1.0 won't rev up any quicker than a 1.3 with a lighter flywheel anyway will it

A 1.0 won't rev up any quicker than a 1.3 with a lighter flywheel anyway will it

it would if you fitted the lighter flywheel to the one litre!

Ahhh ima only young at 19 and i really cant bring myself to pay over a grand for insurance on a GT when i can buy the car three times over nearly for that .

I also believe if i have a good old play with the 1.0l then when i change the block i will have a better idea of how to tune engines and i could maybe tune a GT alot better than i initially would of been able too.

Its all good fun for me really ... I'm young living with my parents and working full time so my little 1.0l is what i spend my money on ..

my personal goal is to wow people with its speed .. most people (obviously not polo owners ) believe it is at least a 1.4 . i havnt even changed the head and Cam yet ...

By the sound of things alot more can be done .. Flywheel .. Inj .. ext ..

Should be all good fun .

Totaly agree.

I have a one litre and i enjoy messing with it although i have a gt engine in the shed i want to just push the 1L to its max.

WORK WITH WHAT YOUVE GOT!!!

i have got a polish gt head/cam and injection witch i am putting on sortly once I've got some tappets( origanal nackered)

Like What was said by g40jon Who needs a massive top speed you have very though place to use it.

Acceleration is were it is at.

Thats my peace anyway.

once head is on and sorted will tell all hay its is..

I'd love a 1 litre to fuck about with and tune, not to be different, just for a bit of fun and to learn more about messing with engines, probably never end up doing it tho

keep me updated on the progress . Shall be intreging . Once its all sorted you should 0-60 it and post a vid online . What else have you done to yours ??

got a four branch with side exit exhaust, (two middle cans)

chip

home made induction

kit

not to much but it make a differance.

I'm hoping to get a dyno reading of before and after gt head swap.

Change ure Carb man ... That makes a big old diffrence ...

£40 or so from a scrappy and does wonders ...

Compare a old Golfs throttle body to a polo's .. exactly the same ... apart from bore size that is

The polo has a aiflow meter so no furthar tuning is required the ecu will do it for you .

Wouldnt advise using the 1.8 inj unit tho ... just use the carb ..

Also the throttle body helps a lil bit too ...

Change ure Carb man ... That makes a big old diffrence ...

its not a carb its just a throttle body!! the throttle body is the bit with the butterfly housing and the injector plate which sits on top. the single point injection polo doesnt have an airflow meter, it relies on a throttle position sensor to do the fueling, so if you use a bigger housing e.g one form a 1.4 or 1.8 golf mk3 its best to use the 1.4 injector or the injector out of a late spec 1.3 spi polo. you may also have to play with the timing and the throttle position alignment (which is on the side of t/b held on by 4 safety torx bolts) to get it running and idling well, but it really is a very worthwhile mod esp with a poloace remap.

awesome going scrappy today yay, if do that will prob only have it on for couple of weeks till gt head is ready but.

it all good fun though.

1L rock

let me know what kinda changes you felt .. it did wonders to mine ...

sounds like a good list,.. the last year I've ran a mk3 golf abd throttle body and injector on my 1043 coupe with good results,... needs setting up right as it can drink the fuel but runs good,.. at the moment I'm swapping the spi for a digijet mpi from my golf got all the wireing done just need to swap the parts over,... along wit a GT cam and soon to have a 1272 head ported/polished,... going to eventually build a custom gbox with diff ratios for my bigger plan but thatll go on along with a g40 clutch and lightned flywheel. then for some fun a bit of gas will see the end of this stage of tuen for my 1.0.

work with what you have is the way to go like said 8-) it might "only" be a 1043 but compared to a 1272 there's not much difference between them as for capacity so i dont see why more people dont use the 1043 :lol: my personal opinion 8-)

nice to see there are a few people on here with a similar mindset to me! I have to admit i get far more pleasure from tinkering with my one litre than i do from my g40

go for it lads, that 1L club rocks ha ha

never found a mk2 gti at scrappy on fri gutted.

anyone changed there coil to the mk2 golf one? ( coke can type coil with seperate amplifier.)

Mk3phil, you said your going to rebuild your gear box are you going to keep it a four speed?
