Background info: After a Karmann Ghia fell through which I was meant to be getting from Kenya, I decided to look closer to home for an old school project. If I’m perfectly honest I had never looked at a Polo before, and had never seen a Mk1 in person. On searching the bay under VW Mk1, this orange Polo just stuck out like a sore thumb.

On further investigation I was 5 minutes away from it. It was a One owner mk1 Polo with a genuine 10,980 miles on the clock. So I stopped at the bank, grabbed some cash and took a drive down to see this car.

It was bought by the Father who loved the car, never driven on the motorway and always waxoiled and garaged. He pasted away and his wife did not know how to drive so the car stayed in the garage. At the age of 55 (I kid u not) the wife decided to learn to drive and used the car to see her friends and go to the shops. Again It had never been on the motorway. Being a new driver this is where the car picked up its only marks, getting in and out the garage was the problem, with small scuffs on all four bumper ends and rear arches. Luckily nothing was dented.

Unfortunately she also pasted away and the car stayed in the garage until their daughter decided to sell the house, and when finding her parents car in the garage put it on the bay of E.

Here is where I come in, on looking around the car all the panel gaps are spot on and there had never been any spray work done to the car, it still had the plastic on the boot carpet! The car started first time and even with the few scratches was in great condition. It came with a whole bunch of receipts, all bar two of the Tax discs, the original dealer pack with brochure and a 1979 Haynes manual.

A Deal was done I paid there and then, and drove it back to my office. This was probably the first time it had been on the motorway and on opening her up got to an rather rubbish 56MPH!

Plans: are to give the car a proper clean up, sort the paint issues, tidy it up around the edges and get the engine to give me the quoted 80mph.

The only mods that will be carried out are ones which are 100% reversible, no bodykits, no cutting. A new set of retro rims will go on together with a drop to stop me getting vertigo, and maybe some stickers.

I will update this thread as I go along.
