Mk2 1.0 won't go!!!!!!

Featured Replies

I swapped the engine and everything out of my saloon into my coupe S, so its now a 1043.

Never used it since, so its stood for 6 months or so now. I took it for a blast up the road once i'd finished it and all was fine and its none nothing since.

Set off to get it mot'd yesterday and got maybe 4 miles down the road and it just cut out, but it would start again no problem but it wouldn't drive, it just coughed and spluttered. Leave it for a bit and it would start and drive but only for a few yards and it would start again.

Anyone able to shed some light on what the problem might be?

It ran fine when it was in the loon, no problems at all.

I swapped the loom/fuel tank, everything relating to that engine cause i'd GT't the Coupe so i took all that out to put in the loon.

The only thing i haven't tried is putting the clocks out of the saloon into the coupe. The dash is still the Coupe S dash/loom etc, i thought it might be something to do with the oil pressure buzzer,(not that its buzzing though)

I've had the carb to bits and cleaned it out, the fuel filter is always full. Its as thought its fuel related but i've checked everything i can think it can be.

Please someone help, its starting to piss me off, i'm only doing it to sell it. If its gonna give me much more bother, it will end up getting squashed into a little block :x:x

Cheers

Nobody got any ideas?

How old is the fuel?

What year is it, does it have electronic or mechanical ignition?

Fuel is new, a couple of gallon of it is anyway, and there wasn't much old stuff in there to start with.

Its a 1990, both the car and the engine.

sounds like my mk2 a few weeks ago, ended up swapping the carb for another one, so guessing that it could be some jets in the carb that are blocked.

When i took the top off the carb, there was some gell like stuff sitting in the very bottom of the float chamber where it looks as though one of the jets would be when the top was replaced. So i cleaned that out and cleaned all the jets out with the airline.

Should maybe take it to bits again and see if there is some more got in.
