Central locking problem Mk 4 Polo

Featured Replies

I have an N reg Mk 4 polo 1.4 with air powered central locking ( well I can hear what sounds like a pump running when the central locking operates and the doors lock and unlock at slightly different speeds and with bit of a sigh)

The passenger door lock has stopped operating the central locking. The central locking operates fine from the drivers door and all doors lock and unlock ( including the passenger door). However putting the key in the passenger door - the key barrel turns but the locking system neither locks nor unlocks.

The doors can be locked and unlocked when inside the car by pulling up the pin in the drivers door - but pulling up or pushing down the pin in the passenger door has no effect.

So - before I start taking it apart - can anyone give advice , suggestions, an explanation of what may be happenin :? g and how to fix it

Do you hear the pump going when using the passenger door to lock? Or does nothing happen atall? If nothings happening i would suggest checking all the wirering.. mine was pretty minced up int he rubber seal between the door and the car!!

I don't hear anything when trying to operate the passenger door lock - also the key feels as thought its only turning the barrell of the lock, there is no resistance as is felt on the drivers door (as though turning the key in the barrel is also turning something else)

i have had a similar problem in fact I'm off to pick my car up from getting it sorted tommorow.

on mine however i suffered acomplete failiure of the central locking, but i did notice it slow down slightly before it went.

the problem on mine was that the central locking pump had failed, yours might just be starting to die.

Its a volkswagon special part for the mark 4, cost 180 pounds excl vat.

take your pump out (located behing the drivers side rear light) and put it in the airing cupboard overnight, then put it back in and if it works thats your problem! happened to mine and that sorted it temporarily but eventually i needed a new one as it did it again so i aquired one from the scrappy!

There is a pin that is linked to the lock barrel and is pushed into the lock tht makes the central locking work bit mine snapped as this is commen sounds like tht to me take door card off and see if you can take handle off check to see if pin has snapped passenger side

after taking them all apart both sides were nearly ripped off, the pins were attachedat about 1/2 of what it should be, so probably just couldn't take the pressure, now I have no locks! except the boot! will order some tomorrow, but now the button inside the car on the windowswitches to do c/l isn't working either, was working fine this afternoon. must be a loose connection i hope.

It seems the pump is working fine.

Will keep trying, at the moment its worse than it was before I started!

i have the same problem with my Nreg 1.3cl polo... everytime i lock the door it makes a whirling sound that can last from 5 to 20 seconds and its pretty loud, i was thinkin to just get a new pump from the breakers yard but I'm wondering if there is a permanent fix without having to replace the actual pump????
