hi there, my mate had a MOT done for her Mk5 polo. suprisingly failed due to the ABS light coming on lol...the garage told her that thy'l charge her £45 to scan in and check the problem 1st then additional charges to actualy fix the dam thing.

Does anyone know what the problem is and how much it should cost to fix? (lol might save her some money)

yeah that is technically a fail...no warning lights allowed IIRC

its most probably a faulty or dirty sensor...if u know what they look like or have a manual then go around and give em a clean with some brake cleaner...if that doesnt help then it'll need pluggin in to identify the faulty one

Can't you just take the bulb out of the dash then it wont come on???

My sister's clio done that, she failed her first driving test becuase of dodgy electrics.

I took the clocks out which is a surprisingly stupid and long task for something which could be so simple, and removed the bulb, it's gone through a driving test and an MOT without the battery bulb.

It would have cost nearly £200 to fix and was a Renualt only task, they said it was a common fault with usualy nothing being wrong at all. Apparently they could fix it in less than a minute by plugging in their computer. £200 for a minute's work, what a joke, I've bought cars with Tax and MOT for less than that.

i have a feeling it is a dirty sensor...apparently she might have to pay for the MOT again aswel :S but taking the bulb out seems like a good idea...

You could check the sensors with a multimeter. Just disconnect the sensors and check the resistance between the 2 pins, should be about 1300ohms I think, but if one of the sensors is nakered then it will just read 0 ohms or open circuit.
