Been staying in Wales for the last few days doing some work...

Go to start the car this afternoon to move on to Cardiff, and can't turn the immobilizer off!

I'm pretty sure its got some aftermarket unit on it, did the polo have an alarm option?

Anyway, key fob seems to have no effect at all so I'm a little stuck. Is the best idea to work through all the wiring, and remove it from the system? I've started and I think I've worked out about half of the wiring, just discovered some of the wires seem to have 2 cores as well, which could make things a bit more interesting! >.<

Any advice? Tips?

Out of interest does any one have a wiring diagram for the ignition on a Mk3 polo? Might come in handy, I'm off tomorrow to buy some crimps, meter, etc as all my tools are in Bath. Flipping nightmare this is.

there was a dealer fit alarm (my g40 had one) but the fit wasnt exactly profesional! anyhow mine developed a similar fault, it wouldnt start and the alarm kept going off. so in the end i decided to remove it from the car. i found it helped to remove the tray under the glove box and also the centre console, i then ripped out any wiring that didnt look std (was easy to spot!) and re joined the wires they had cut, this was also easy to spot. before you try that though it might be worth removing the + lead from the battery and leaving it a while to discharge, then reconnect it to see if it resets it.

My alarm and immob system can be turned off with a special key, i had a similar trouble but ii just popped the bonnet, flicked the cover off on the alarm unit, and turned the key... No more alarm woes!

Worth having a look, as stupid as it seems.

Identified all wires...

Few inparticular, wondered if you had any ideas....

Yellow - Fat Red Wire (on the loom with a black socket, I'm guessing this is ignition or +12v?

Orange - Black (yellow loom)

Removed, reconnected coil, disconnected alarm, and disconnected ignition 'sense' wire.

Hopefully thats it, and there's no cunning additions which might mess up timings, etc.

Might take it on a few rants before it goes on the motorway later today.

Thanks for the insights, think I'll be sorting out the mess of wiring when I get back!
