i know its a bit of a stupid one !!! but check the tyre pressure !!!! and if they are ok

i get a burning smell sometimes !!! i think it might be the breaks over heating sleatly iam jus giving a few ideas what it could be there not for deff like

i agree with vpolo it could be yr tyre pressure is low and check yr brake pads they could be worn out and that can cause the smell?

maybe its the power steering fliud leaking onto the exhaust so that could explain heavy steering and an occasional burning smell

could be the power steering pump seziing up slitly and rubbing on the belt cause friction on the belt (burning smell and havey steering.

partially seized brake pads, check the colour of your discs, if they're slightly blue then something is wrong and the brakes are overheating causing the smell, obviously sticking brakes will also make the car feel draggy

ok cheers lads the tyres where all pumped up 3 days ago to the recomeneded pressure so i know thats 1 of the list will check the rest tomorrow i have a feeling its something to do with the power steering fluid, any help on how to check the correct amount of fluid?sorry if thats an obvious one but I'm a actual retard at technical things on cars

jus check the level on teh side of the resevoir it should say minimum and full e.t.c

EDIT: get a haynes manuel and general car check things will be in there

undo the green cap on the reservoir, the cap has a dipstick attached to it. i think it has a min and max mark but it may just have a hatched mark, if so anywhere in the hatched mark is ok

to top up you'll need some G002000 fluid (its green in colour and mineral based) , avalible from GSF or a VAG dealer
