tried to get some one to repray my bumpers and the paint work is not perfect ..got that orange peel efect appearing. SO he's not happy and obviously nor am i lol..any one kno why this would happen?

usually poor prep work, silicone (in a lot of car cleaning products) under the paint is the usual one

mmm i thought it might of been due to less heat or somthing:S ....

can be many reasons orange peel isnt caused my silicones these appear as small circles aka fisheyes.

orange peel itself is caused by either high air pressure. or the painter himself who has the gun technique wrong eg hes moving the gun to fast and/or to far away. also can be caused if he has thinned the laquer out abit to much and/or has been dried to quickly or in very cold tempretures

fish eyeing is a reaction

orange peal is too much paint / clear coat and not flatting it back and smoothing it

if it's painted and clear coated either the clear coat needs more 2000 et and dry back and polishing up

if it's just paint (solid colour) it will need flatting and polishing the same way

but if they didn't flat the paint before clear coating it'll need redoing to get rid

orange peel isnt 2 much laquer its 2 little u put 2 much laquer on and it will run like fuck orange peel is not enuff u av 2 get the exact rite amount trust i no I've been ther and done it...............very badly

i paint cars for a living too much i don't mean all at once i mean too many heavy coats, it's texture in the paint / clear coat that causes the orange peal effect

have you noticed the paint on most new mootrs. daewoos and fiats seem particularly bad. 'orange peel' effect everywhere!

All cars come standard with it these days. My mates a painter by trade and he says its shocking some of the paint that comes on cars as stock. BMW are fairly shit as well. I'd not be best pleased with orange peely paint when I just forked out £60k

Paint,as with most liquids,shrinks when it hardens. Even aluminium,when it reaches hardening temperature. Get in the bath for two hours and look at your fingers. This is the result of the skin being too big for the area underneath (due to water absorbsion,in that case). Its the same with paint. Put too much on in one application,and the surface will 'skin' as usual,but then the paint underneath shrinks a fraction. This causes the skin of the paint to warp - and give an orange-peel effect. Fresh paint is rarely glass-smooth,and the only reason older cars in good condition have smoother paint than brand new cars is because they've been polished more.

The lad whos paiting my car get a mint finish off the gun, so when its wet flatted and polished its like a god damn mirror. I'm so excited to have my car done!!!
