MK3 rev counter clocks

Featured Replies

Title says it all really. If you were to put early spec clocks and an early 3F engine into a late-spec shell, will the wiring need any modding? I know the engine will have both oil pressure senders needed, and the clocks are designed to suit this format, but I'm wondering if i will need to run a wire from the engine to the clocks. Or will it already be present, and when you reconnect the engine wiring it will all run fine.

can anyone shed any light?

Thanks.

Well thanks, i've re-read that many a time, but it doesnt actually answer my question. If it did, i wouldnt have needed to post here.

You see simon1's tip is very useful indeed, but didnt quite solve my problem. I guess i will have to run the line from the the 2nd oil pressure sensor directly to the clocks, as i would imagine the later car's loom is designed to take only the single oil pressure feed. Or just do as simon says (hahaha)

I take it the entire clock loom isn't swappable?

I don't know how it all connects as I've not had it apart yet. I can't use any of the ignition circuit as the donor car has a battered immobiliser fitted, which is immobilising the starter motor even when its 'disarmed'.

But yeah i guess if the clock loom isn't connected to the ignition loom then it should eb fine - good call toby. Thanks for a helpful answer!

as far as i can see the wire is not there (even though it says its present in the wiring diagrams) I can double check this by the wires colour coding ( as i have to take my clocks out again tonight due to a bulb blowing) if its not there you can either run an extra wire to the clocks from the sensor, change the looms over so the wire is there or do the bypass that i have put in the FAQ.

as far as wether the engine will run fine or not is another matter that i do not know about as the other looms may be diffrent and the ECU may differ (my particular ecu is diffrent to most MK3 ecu's and belive the map is diffrent as poloaces chip would not work).

hope that helps

Simon

i put early spec clocks and an early 3F engine into a late-spec shell

& had to remove the buzzer and flashing red led from the clocks

Now thats what i needed to know! Thanks!

I might see if i can run a line directly from the second oil sensor to the clocks, i don't really like the idea of driving along without knowing of a problem with oil pressure!

Once the light comes on your in the shit anyway, best off getting an aftermarket pressure gauge wired in.
