picking up my first ever vw, a tatty runaround polo squareback thing

first thing that needs sorting is the seats, will mk2 golf gti 3 dr seats and frames bolt straight in?

Yes they will but they will sit too high

I have corbeau recliners with mk2 golf subframes, they fit straight in but they sit about 4 inches higher!

cheers dude! may not be any good for me then unless the sub frames are swappable?

no subframes are just part of the whole seat frame, not separate parts. Your best bet is some seats from a Scirocco or Corrado. They are lower than the polo seats and also fit right in.
