The wheel wells are painted or coated with something, but when I removed one of the arch liners temporarily I came across a tiny bit of exposed metal. I assume if I leave it like that it may start rusting?

Does anyone know what this stuff is, or what I can use instead to prevent it rusting?

Thanks, I only need like a cm's worth of coverage so hopefully won't be messy...is this stuff normally available from Halfords/local motorfactors?
