Going rate for tyre repair? £17.50 ok?

Featured Replies

So I've got a nice bit of metal in one of my tyres about one third of the way across the tread so I believe it's repairable. I've just called Kwik Fit (the only place I could find round here open on Sunday) and they said £17.50 all in, does this sound reasonable? I repaired a tyre when I first got my polo a few years ago and I seem to remember that costing about £18-9. Also surely this is a job Kwik Fit can be entrusted with? I've already swapped the spare on so they won't be touching the car. I work in the week and would like to get it sorted soon so if they're any good and that's a good price I might just go there tomorrow.

Any advice would be good!

Thanks,

Ray

jesus, i got a tyre fixed for under a tenner... this may be of no help whatso ever but depending on your tyre size cant you just fork out for a new one. I've got a receipt for 4 brand new falkens for £96 dev by 4 = £24 but they are 155 70 13s. Maybe worth just spending that extra £10 for a new one.

Just a thought thought mate.

I had two tyres fitted (I supplied them!) and had a hole fixed for a tenner. Try somewhere little and independent. Kwik fit just fit you up.

I thought that's why they were called that.

My mum drives a kia sorento and had a big rusty nail in her tyre and she went to kwik fit to get it fixed and it worked a treat.

I would recommend it, saves you faffing about trying to find diff places to do it cheaper.

i pay 10 quid at kwik fit ;)

I'm super pikey. The wheels and tyres on my car cost £15. :D

I'm semi-pikey, i bought 2 part worn 185/60/13's nankangs for £20 fitted loads and loads of tread on them so I'm a happy bunny

Well mine were 2 155/70 Michelins (still with moulding marks) on 6n steels and 2 half worn 145/80 arrowspeeds on Mk2/2F steelies :D

Well my 6x13 ats alloys with 2 good tyres were free plus the £20 for the 2 part worns, i think my deal has the slight edge over yours!

:-p lol

damn you! lol

I've had countless tyres repaired and refitted for £3-5 at a local tyre place...although a few years back one of the chavs working there scratched the fuck outtta one of my wheels! Luckily it was my winter rims and they were shit!

We charge £10 , thats at a main dealer!!!

£6 round here.

Right ok I think I'll run on the spare for a week and go somewhere else on my day off... It's only done around 5000 miles on the back so there's still about 5mm tread left so definitely worth repairing. I've got four spares in the cellar so no hurry to get it fixed really!

Thanks all, glad I asked!

£7 thats with balancing up after aswell.

£5 with repair and balance, just got to no the right people;)

You cant get shitter than a Kwik'fit fitter.....

OK found time to ring around today and everyone was cheaper! One place said £5 so I'll go on the way home from work tomorrow. Trouble is it's not actually punctured, just the tread is damaged, hopefully they can still do something even if it involves making a puncture so it can be repaired.

Anyway thanks all, saved me some cash :)
