The rear wiper on my mk3 genesis has never worked since day 1 but now looking to sort out the problem.

When I flick the stalk forward nothing happens with the wiper but the washer do attempt to squirt even though nothing comes out (does it use the same reservoir as the front?).

The weird thing is that when I flick the stalk for the rear wiper there is a strange clicking noise from the front seat area. I realise that the fuse box is just behind the glove box but the wiper is on the same fuse as the horn and that works.

Has anyone experienced the same problem as I may as well try to fix it instead of it just sitting on the rear screen doing nothing.

That 'clicking noise' is the relay that tells the wiper to turn on/off which should click. that kinda indicates it a wiring fault from the relay to the wiper.. i.e. your stalks working mint.

I'd check the motor on the rear wiper and all its connections.

To do that, open you boot and take that big black pannel off (from the inside of the boot, basically opposite side to the numberplate!!)

all the internals are easily got to here.

As for the water. its the same resevoir and you should hear a pumping sound. Generally, the pipes come loose at the boot where they meet the wiper (or brake or get blocked) 3 out my 5 polos had this problem when I bought them. Once again look behind that boot cover.

So just follow all the wires/connections behind the boot cover and you should find the problem.

It could be that the motor is just dead, mine stopped dead for no reason one day, swapped in a new (second hand obviously!) one and it worked fine. Do what MrP said though, but it could be the motor itself.

both of my polos had this problem, one wire perished through the gator as it entered the boot and the other had a seized motor. easy fixes, or de-wiper it
