Did my cambelt recently and found like everyone else that the alternator pulley will not come off unless you provide a small gap for it to do so. I did the old crowbar against the the inner wing method which provides that vital inch for it to fall off.

The thing that I didnt get was this "engine drop" thing as I undid the engine mount and placed jack support under the sump expecting to the full weight of the engine to be held by this but it didnt move at all. I could raise it a few inches which made life easier but it wouldnt drop further than its original position.

Did I miss a couple more bolts that I was supposed to remove?

well your gearbox has a mount on it on the other side, and the back of the engine should have a mount to the subframe

Oh right cheers. Just that most people just say undo the engine mount on the cambelt side so I thought it was just that 1 bolt.

No wonder it didnt drop down. Still I reckon That the inner wing crowbar method is a good shortcut.

I don't think you need to undo all those mounts at all. In fact, I didn't undo any I just jammed a crowbar in. Dropped the pulley off no bother.

I did this last nite with the timing. Do bad I was dinking, if I could remember lol

First time I did the cambelt change it took me a whole weekend (mainly due to seized bolts) and the first time I was almost ready to give in. Now I can have the drained coolant in a bucket and the water pump and cambelt in my hand in under an hour.

Its all a bloody learning curve!!!

no you need to take out the bolts that hold the mount to the actual engine block, if you just remove the one bolt that holds the mount to the chassis rail then you wont be able to lower it as the mount just sits on the chassis rail.

You shouldn't need to undo the other mounts, there's enough movement in them to lower the left down enough to get the pulley off.
