theres a little bulb in them with a green cap

so either take off the cap n laquer the bulb (doesnt work too well) or rip out the bulb and put in a resistor and led

fantastic, LEDs seem to be the way forward. Could anyone elaborate on this, size of resistor and leds, and how they all fit together. Would save hours of chimp-like head scratching

go to www.ultraleds.co.uk

choose a 3mm led u like and get a pack of resistors for use with 12v applications...simple as that...then get soldering with the resistor attached to one leg of the led

Tej why do you need resistors? Where do you solder them too?

the leds have an optimum voltage of something like 1.5 volts... that varies with brand and colour of LED so check with the supplier...

as such u need a resistor to take some of the voltage away from the LED as it'll die instantly connected to 12v

the resistor jus goes in-line with the LED...an in series connection

Ahh cool, Another little thing to be buying for me 16v project:) I'm thinking WHITE dash lights :) with red bits. hehe

white with red bits, sounds like a typical english tourist! lol. Should look cool, jus have to watch the brightness.

Thanks for the help tej, invaluable as always

no problem mate

i thought about white and red for mine when i first done it but with white dials i didnt think it would work too well...but with the standard black dials white letters with red needles would look spot on 8-)
