Right got my hands on some springs for my GT, But at the moment and noing me rest of the year i wont buy a suspension kit. So fitting them to standard shocks,

they will wear out quicker but they should be just about ok on a 50 mm drop

i wouldnt do it, theres a very slight taper to the shock shaft i think, which means that with it being lower you ware out the o-rings faster so then they leak. i took mine off and theyd absolutly had it! 15 years motoring had that effect.

i recommend new shocks aswell as springs

Generally you would be OK going to about 30mm on standard shocks, but its still better to use uprated and shortened items as they will wear out a lot quicker.

50mm you should really get some shocks as well

You should be alright for a few months but it will kill old dampers pretty quickly. My bro's been running around on 40mm lowering springs and standard shocks for about 2months now, the rears barely work anymore and the fronts are leaking badly.

The way i look at it is, if you gunna have the all the suspension apart to fit springs why not fit some new shocks at the same time otherswise you've only gotta do the job twice. I'd wait if I were you.

Doing the front suspension on a mk3 is a right pain in the cock. I'd not like to do it anymore times than I have to!

I bought Bilstein gas dampers for standard springs and used 40mm springs instead. The setup has proven to be brilliant - durable and smooth. But i can move the springs by hand when the wheel is off the ground. Fifties are just not going to sit tight enough imo,and they'll be too tight for the used dampers. And yeah,this is a job you only want to do once,i promise you that.
