I've got some fog light style lights for my mk2 i was planning on fitting them to the bumper next to the reg plater but i dont know what to wire them to, is there already a relay i can use for them? i have a twin light grill and halogens alround these new lights lights are 55w H3U's. i noticed that my rear fog has a 3way switch could i wire them into that? do i need a relay to do it and if so what wires go where (I've never understood a relay!)

Also whats the thing on the mot with them can i use them as "driving lights?"

Yeah you should use a relay to protect the wiring to your foglight switch. It may be fine and up to carrying the current for the fogs, but it's better to use some decent wire and just use your foglight switch to switch on the relay. Connect your foglight switch to the coil of the relay, and the foglights and battery to the other two contacts (can't think what they're called - the ones that get switched on or off). I can draw a diagram if that doesn't make sense (I doubt it does!)

Can't help with any mk2 specific stuff though!

Here's a diagram of how the relay works.

I haven't bothered trying to guess what the existing mk2 wiring is like, but that's the basic idea. The thicker wires are the ones carrying the current to the lamps, and the thinner wires are just to work the relay. Obviously you'll need a suitable fuse in series with the lamp circuit, but the existing wiring to your foglight switch should be fused already.

Automotive relays usually have a diagram 'engraved' on them showing which pin is which.
