I've got a rattle on my mk3 squareback that's driving me mad! (well... madder) Sounds like a cable whacking against the dash... But i'm 98% confident it's not!

Sounds definately from the front near side, ahead of the passenger seat...

Looked all up behind the dash... area round the heater... inside the door... it's not the bit of heat shielding behind the clutch cable either, or loose wipers/mechanism... I've looked pretty much everywhere!

Doesn't sound mechanical, but had it up in the air anyway, and can't feel any play in the suuspension (stock) ...

Any ideas?

i just put a new exhust on my mk3, and i took the cross member off and put the zorst on then cross member back, and one of the clamps knocks against it (just needs turn round abit) have a look at the exhaust on your car see if it is hitting againt anything.

One rattle? Is that all?? :lol: Count yourself lucky my friend....

My car stopped rattling when I removed the interior. Just an idea for you.

The main things I've found to squeak/rattle are the rear bench, parcel shelf and the door cards. Woops, they're in the garage.

I do get the odd rattle from the dashboard I suppose... But I put it down to the knackered suspension.

mines fairly quiet inside when traveling along. i would check your zorst as well just to see if it is knocking against anything.

Just to update everyone, it's been either chucking down with rain, or dark recently, so still not looked underneath.

It's definately not door cards (driven with them off) , glovebox lid (same) rear seat (never in!) rear shelf (spends as long in as the back seat!), or the plastic panels that the rear speakers mount into (they're in the loft, with some custom ones with 6x9s in the car that definately don't rattle!)

And it's just on bumpy roads...

That narrow it down for anyone?

THINK i've found it!!!

Tightened the clutch cable up a couple of turns... It's virtually gone. Didn't expect that!!!

Anyone know about clutch release arm springs? They're pictured in the Haynes, but my car doesn't seem to have anywhere to mount one onto! ... Just thinking, if that really is the rattle, a spring should cure it for good...

Plate underneathe with the fuel pump/filter on? Not much else down there to rattle!
