Hi guys i have been looking around for polo sites and this seems to be the best one for people who modify thier cars properly and unlike the vast majority of chavs do it properly and can talk in a coherant sentance.

Right heres my problem i have just passed my test and when i came home yesterday i saw that my parents had given me thier old 98 VW Polo 1.0L as mum just got a 2 litre fiesta ST.

Its a great car but i cant help but think it looks a bit boring the following are some photos of it:

Now here are some things i would really love some advice on

1) As you can see by image 3 the ariel on the car is a little worse for wear and there are bits of plastic falling off it. I need to know how easy it is to replace the ariel on it and where i might find a good one.

2) Looking at picture 4 you can see that i have the stock radio and tape player which i would like to replace how easy is it to fit a new one or would it be easier to get a CD player at halfords so they can fit it for me also has anyone got any advice for CD players with a MP3 CD function.

3) As you can see by picture 5 the steering wheel is showing signs of wear and tear i know this is going to be hard to replace but i just wanted to know if any wheel can be used or if i can revive the wheel at all if not what would be a good wheel to get.

4) I want to replace the wheel trims as you can see by picture 6 the wheels are a bit scratched up i just wanted to know if the new trims just clip on or if i need to do anything to what is there.

5) I was going to put on a new gear knob as the stock one is worn out and tacky but reverse is on the left next to first and you have to push the gear stick down to get to it will this make it hard to put a new one on.

Sorry if thats a lot of information and i hope you can spare some time to help me out as i love the car and would like to make it look a little less plain and a little more personal.

1. Aerial should just unscrew from the base. Loads of places sell new antenna.

2. Stereo should be very easy to fit as long as no-one has butchered the factory loom. I wouldn't pay Halford to fit ANYthing. But not everyone knows how to do stuff so it's horses for courses. If you fit it yourself you'll need an ISO lead to connect the stereo to the car.

3. Doesn't look like you have an airbag so a straight swap for a newer version or an upgrade to a sports wheel should be a doddle.

4. New wheel trims should clip straight on. VW ones will fit best and be good quality, but expensive.

5. Gearknob will probably just unscrew if you twist it anti-clockwise. The reverse operation is not an issue.

Three questions though

1) How would one prise off the gear stick top where is the clip

2) Someone said to me that changing the wheel needs a boss or something

3) What is an ISO lead and where do i get one

Also what do you think of the car just out of interest as i haven't really had a profesional opinion of it

We've already established that the gear knob is outside of my knowledge so I'll leave that.

If you fit an aftermarket steering wheel you'll need a boss which is basically an adapter supplied by the wheel maker.

An ISO lead I think stands for Industry Standard Organisation or summat (probably dreamt that up tbh.) It basically plugs into the loom on the stereo and the other end plugs into the loom on the car. Saves you having to hard wire anything

Just looking for the ISO lead online and i cant seemt o find one for a 98 polo got lots for other years but not for 98 might talk to my garage for that though.
