Got the coilovers through the other day and want to be sure I know 100% what I'm doing this Friday (booked day off work to make sure car is ready for Seat parking at British Touring Car Championships lol)

Anyways. Bear in mind these are 100% newbie questions as in all the years pissing around with cars I've never handled coilies or taken apart anything other than Mk2/3 suspension!

1. The top mounts (I bought new ones). Do they just sit on the domed coilover cap like so? Is there nothing to secure them? On the old polo's it all built into each other and there was a cap on the shock/spring combination that the top mount sat in. Oh... I've not gone completly retarded and got it up the wrong way have I?!?

2. Is there an easy way to fit the coilover? The thing requires a helluva lot of force to get some thread showing through the top mount when placed on it. Is the easiest way to fit the things to the car, lower it down and tighten up the thread when it pops through into the engine bay!?

The other, which I guess is fairly simple... the coilovers arrived like so:

which I'm guessing is quite low.. does anyone know how far to wind it up to find a standard car height?

you will need to wind up the coiliver a fair way to achieve the standard height!

whatever the max drop is on the suspension wind it up that much! i would suggest about 90mm from the lowest thread.

for instance i measured the thread on this and set a standard wheel bolt in length from its lowest setting and it was silly low!

i am having a severe mental block as to what order things go in sorry and i fitted a set only last week!

The top mount on the mk4 polo does not look like that from what i remember. Best thing to do is when you take off the old stuff see how it is fixed on.

On the mk4 you bolt the top mount to the top of the coil over.

The Ibiza ones are a mk3 Golf/Mk4 Polo bastard child. The top mounts I think are Mk4 Polo type.

Think I know what to do. It goes:

The silver dome thing keeps the spring in place, the top mount with the brass circle thing facing down then goes on. The bolt that CAME with the coilver then secures down onto the top mount to lock it in place.

The coilover I guess is complete. Can be inserted into the car and then the top dome thing goes down then the securing bolt on top. If I've got any of this wrong please someone tell me!

thats what confused me as it dooes not look like the mk4 one!

any issues theat seem to confus you know will come apprent thought when you remove the old stuff as it goes back on in revers order! i ws confused when i did mine, but found once i started it was easier and obvious where eveerything went!

think the mk4 polo one is all rubber no metal.

Sounds right what you put above about the fitting. You won't be missing any thing.
